Description | Sk'in Santa Cruz is a video filmed in the hamlet of Petalcingo, county of Tila. Various persons participate in it, who pray that the rain that supports the whole town may be always abundant. In the words of don Juan Gómez, we hear worry about the fact that water is being politicized; that is to say, a group of persons, members of some political party, have have made the people believe that the tanks are not suitable for storing the vital liquid, or they make them believe that the tanks don't hold sufficient water to support the whole population. Because of this, don Juan Gómez, in his prayers takes back the opinions of the green-ecologists (political party), to make God know that the information they offer is being manipulated. One observes two types of prayers: those performed by don Juan Gómez, when he speaks or prays before the ajawetik, and those performed by catechized members of the Roman Catholic Church. The idea of the Catholics is that if nothing else they will pray to the ajawetik who do bad things with god, and that if nothing else they will pray to god and leave the side of the ajaw, which could bother him because human beings constantly walk upon the earth adn the water that they drink springs from the earth; therefore, so as not to get in bad with any of the sacred beings, they should pray to both on the same day. |
