DescriptionThis recording was made in the community of Ch'enpalma, in Tenejapa county, which before was the county of Oxchuc but they were speakers of that town (Oxchuc), where the interview was conducted at the request of Señor Manuel Gómez K'ulub, originally of Oxchuc. The ladies and gentlemen who were interviewed are: Manuel Gómez Akux, his wife María Sántiz, Alonso Gómez Akux and his wife, María López Junak. They explain how their lives were in earlier days, also the history of the hacienda where they now live. They say it was the hacienda of the Flores family and they used to work the land together. Subsequently, doña María Adelina Flores was the one who donated the plantation called Ch'enpalma, the inhabitants of that place. The adobe house where they stored their harvests still stands. They talk a bit about the meaning of the "balteetik": the servants of the rich.
