DescriptionFestivities in Zhud, Cañar for Corpus Christi. A mass is held in a church whose entryway is decorated with a large arch adorned with fruit. The priest and dancers (mamadanza) lead a procession out of the church. Some of the dancers are interviewed. The recording ends with instrumental music by a small brass band of trombones, trumpets, saxophones, drums and cymbals. Two musical styles are present within the church - a synthesizer with hymns and mamadanza music (drum with pinguillo flute). Outside of the church, mamadanza music/dance continues and mestizo brass band plays music. See May2021_Compiled_Liner_Notes_in_English_&_Spanish.pdf for more information about the musical genres and instruments referenced or appearing in this file.
