Description | The autodenomination of this language is umbeyajts, and that of the speech community is konajts. This collection consists of audio recordings made in San Francisco del Mar, Oaxaca, Mexico, over a series of nine visits of 2-5 weeks each between 2004 and 2013, and associated materials such as transcriptions where available. Most sessions include the researcher and a single speaker, and they contain a mix of elicitation, interviews, narratives, and informal conversation. At the time of recording this variety of Huave was highly endangered, and all speakers were elderly. The research was supported by funding from the Salus Mundi Foundation (2004-2008), the University of Manchester LLC School Research Support Fund (2010), and AHRC Early Career Research Grant AH/H033645/1 to PI Andrew Koontz-Garboden (2012-2013). Curation was made possible by a British Academy fellowship (MF21\210050). |
