DescriptionThese notes were made by Kaufman working with 2 speakers of 2 different languages -- Huasteco (Mayan language family) and Coxcatlán Nahuatl (Uto-Aztecan language family)-- to collect and classify plant terms. The Huasteco speaker was Benigno Robles Reyes, the labor coordinator for the PDLMA; Kaufman does not remember the name of the Nahuatl speaker. According to Kaufman, we know that this work was particularly focused on Huasteco because the taxonomic class of the plant is given for Huasteco, but not for Nahuatl, e.g. tz' is Kaufman's abbreviation for vine.
