DescriptionThis text is a message recorded by young students in Panama City, probably boys from the village of Niatupu or Tigantiki, sent to Saila (Chief) Gonzalo Salcedo, who was then first chief of Niatupu, and directed to the leading men of the village. The message or harangue, almost definitely recorded during the first two-thirds of 1977, urges the villagers to vote NO on the upcoming referendum on the Torrijos-Carter Canal Treaty. In fact, a majority of Kuna voted NO.
