Description | These materials are primarily based on work with a native speaker of San Dionisio Ocotepec Zapotec who now lives near Albany, NY and reflect data gathered between 1998 and the present. In the earlier material, the name of the language is spelled San Dionicio, which reflects a common (but incorrect) spelling of the name of the town. San Dionisio Ocotepec is located in the Tlacolula district of Oaxaca, Mexico. The town has approximately 5,000 people, nearly all of whom speak Zapotec. The variety of Zapotec spoken here shows many similarities to the varieties spoken in San Pablo Güilá, San Lucas Quiaviní, Tlacolula de Matamoros, and Santa Ana del Valle. Research supported by the University at Albany, State University of New York. |
