Description | An annual parade put on by the municipality of Cañar in which "folkloric" music and dance as well as Cañari music and dance are performed. The region celebrates being the archeological capitol of the nation given that Ingapirca, the best known Inca/Cañari ruins in Ecuador, is located within the province. The parade is emcee'ed in both Spanish and Kichwa. The parade features Cañari musicians and dancers though many of the groups performing Indigenous dances from other regions of Ecuador are mestizos. There is an overt effort to draw tourism to the region for the event. See May2021_Compiled_Liner_Notes_in_English_&_Spanish.pdf for more information about the musical genres and instruments referenced or appearing in this file. |
