DescriptionFrom the introduction of the paper:

The relative constructions in Zenzontepec Chatino (Otomangue, Mexico) present a wide range of nuances in their syntactic structures. First, they resort to different strategies to represent the nucleus or some of its traits within the relative clause (Comrie, 1989:148): some resort to the gap strategy; others the relative pronoun strategy; and others to the retention of the pronoun...although the latter do not have any explicit pronoun. Second, independently from the nucleus representations trategies, the relative construccions are also distinguished by being of the syndetic or asyndetic type by the presence or absence of some element that represets a combination of clauses. Third, the relative clauses are also distinguished by the kind of nucleus they contain (Epps, 2012): some have an external lexical nucleus; other have a light nucleus (Citko, 2004); and still others are of the type that lack a nucleus (van Riemsdijk, 2006).
