DescriptionThis is a re-telling of a story told by Román, a Zoque of Texistepec, Veracruz. The story is framed as a tribute to Román, who passed away earlier in the year. The story is about a time when Román met the devil in the road, fought him and won, and was rewarded by the townspeople.

The photo was taken in Fortín de las Flores in 1995. The narrator, Germán Sánchez Morales, is on the left. Next to him is the narrator of the original version of this story, Román. Next to Román is the third of the Three Amigos, Lucio of Santa María Chimalapa, Oaxaca.
